Anastasia Touati

Anastasia Touati is a civil engineer and holds a PhD in Urban Planning and Regional Studies from the Ecole des Ponts Paris Tech. In 2013, she defended her thesis entitled “Political economy of densification of suburban areas: the advent of differentiated post-suburban strategies” at the Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées, under the supervision of Olivier Coutard and Jonathan Rutherford.

After having worked for seven years for the French Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy, first as a research officer, and then as a project manager in the field of sustainable urban development (CEREMA and then PUCA), she joined  the Inter American Development Bank between 2015 and 2017 to contribute to the design, supervision, monitoring and evaluation of development projects in Haiti (Land Tenure Security, Sustainable Tourism, Natural Protected Areas, Sustainable Urban Development, etc.).

Since 2017, she is an Urban Development Specialist at the World Bank in the Global Practice “Social, Urban and Rural Development, and Resilience”, for the MENA Region (Middle East and North Africa).

Today her work focuses on the critical analysis of policies and processes of sustainable territorial development  (suburban densification, land policies,  regional development, urban-rural interface, decentralization, lagging regions, etc.) in various countries (Canada, Chile, Colombia, France, Haiti, Morocco, Peru, Tunisia, etc.).

Anastasia Touati est Ingénieur des Travaux Publics de l’État et Docteur en Aménagement et Urbanisme. En 2013, elle a soutenu sa thèse intitulée «Économie politique de la densification des espaces à dominante pavillonnaire : l’avènement de stratégies post-suburbaines différenciées » à l’École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées, sous la direction d’Olivier Coutard et Jonathan Rutherford.

Après avoir travaillé pendant sept ans au Ministère de l’Écologie, du Développement Durable et de l’Énergie, en tant que chargée de projets  dans le domaine de l’aménagement durable (CEREMA puis PUCA), elle a rejoint en 2015 la Banque Inter Américaine de Développement pour contribuer à la conception, au suivi et à l’évaluation de projets de développement en Haïti (Sécurité foncière en milieu rural, Tourisme durable, Aires protégées, Développement Urbain, etc.).

Depuis Janvier 2017, elle est spécialiste en développement urbain à la Banque Mondiale, pour la Global Practice “Développement social, urbain et rural et résilience”,  pour la région Afrique du Nord et Moyen Orient

Ses travaux portent sur l’analyse critique de politiques et processus de développement territorial dits « durables » (densification des banlieues, planification et aménagement urbain, politiques foncières, développement régional, interface urbain-rural, périurbain, décentralisation, régions défavorisées, etc.) en France et à l’étranger (Canada, Chili, Colombie, Haïti, Maroc, Pérou, Tunisie).
